Introduction:
On February 15, 2024, St. Francis College, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance
Cell (IQAC), organized a Mental Health Sensitization Program. The program aimed to raise
awareness about mental health issues among students and faculty members. Key
collaborators included the CAD-CV project and professionals from the Department of
Nursing at NIMHANS, Bangalore.
Objective:
The primary objective of the program was to enhance understanding and reduce stigma
surrounding mental health disorders, emphasizing the importance of early recognition and
intervention.
Outcomes:
1. Increased awareness and knowledge about mental health issues among staff members.
2. Reduction in stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness within the
institution.
3. Improved attitudes towards seeking help for mental health concerns.
4. Implementation of supportive policies or practices within the institution to promote
mental well-being.
5. Enhanced capacity among staff members to identify and support individuals
experiencing mental health challenges.
Program Highlights:
Introduction by Emcee
Ms. Sowmya S, Assistant Professor, Department of English, commenced the event with a
warm welcome and introduction to set the tone for the Mental Health Sensitization Program.
Prayer
Ms. Shalin from the Departments of Commerce and Management led the audience in a
moment of prayer, fostering a reflective atmosphere conducive to learning and understanding.
Welcome Address
Dr. R N Subba Rao, the Principal of St. Francis College, extended a heartfelt welcome to all
participants, emphasizing the significance of the program in addressing mental health issues
and promoting well-being within the college community.
Session by Resource Persons
Dr. Radhakrishnan Govindan, PhD, FISPN
Dr. Radhakrishnan Govindan, Additional Professor of Nursing at NIMHANS, Bengaluru,
delivered a captivating presentation on various aspects of mental health. With his extensive
knowledge and expertise, Dr. Govindan shed light on common mental health disorders, their
symptoms, and available treatment options. His engaging session captivated the audience and
laid a strong foundation for understanding mental health issues.
Ms. Asha Vilson:
Ms. Asha Vilson, Project Associate specializing in Psychiatric Nursing at NIMHANS,
Bangalore, complemented Dr. Govindan's presentation with her insights into the practical
aspects of mental health care. Her session focused on the importance of early intervention,
destigmatizing mental illness, and promoting holistic well-being. Ms. Vilson's expertise and
passion for mental health advocacy resonated with the audience, inspiring thoughtful
discussions and reflections.

Mr. Sathish Kumar, Head of the Department of English, expressed gratitude to the esteemed
speakers, organizers, and participants for their valuable contributions to the Mental Health
