As part of the academic curriculum, the B.Com students of St. Francis College embarked on an educational trip to Mangalore and Udupi from 3rd to 5th May 2024. The purpose of this trip was to explore the business, financial, and tourism sectors in these coastal cities, providing students with valuable insights into commerce, banking, entrepreneurship, and local industries.

Objectives of the Trip
• To understand the functioning of financial institutions and banking systems in Mangalore.
• To explore the coastal economy and fisheries industry in Udupi.
• To learn about entrepreneurial opportunities in tourism and hospitality.
• To study small-scale industries and their impact on the local economy.


Trip Overview
Visit to Financial Institutions in Mangalore
• Students visited leading banks and financial institutions to understand banking operations.
• Gained insights into investment, loans, digital banking, and economic policies.
• Interaction with banking professionals on financial planning and risk management.


Study of Fisheries and Coastal Economy in Udupi
• Visit to fishing harbors and processing units to understand the fishing industry's impact on the economy.
• Learning about export procedures, supply chain management, and government regulations in the sector.
• Interaction with local fishermen on challenges and advancements in marine trade.


Exploration of Tourism and Hospitality Industry
• Analysis of tourism-driven businesses, including hotels, homestays, and resorts.
• Understanding the role of eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and pilgrimage tourism in Udupi.
• Learning about digital marketing strategies used in hospitality services.
Visit to Small-Scale Industries

• Observing the functioning of cashew processing units and coir industries.
• Learning about raw material procurement, production techniques, and market strategies.
• Understanding government policies supporting MSMEs (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises).

The educational trip to Mangalore and Udupi was an enriching experience for B.Com students. It provided hands-on exposure to banking, fisheries, tourism, and small-scale industries, bridging the gap between academic concepts and real-world applications.
