The Department of Commerce of organized an industrial visit to Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), a leading dairy cooperative in Karnataka, renowned for its Nandini brand of dairy products. The visit aimed to provide students with a practical understanding of dairy production, supply chain management, and business operations in the cooperative sector.
Key Products: Milk, Curd, Ghee, Butter, Cheese, Ice Cream, and other dairy products.
The Industrial visit was conducted
• To understand the milk processing and production stages.
• To gain insights into KMF’s cooperative business model and financial management.
• To explore the supply chain, logistics, and marketing strategies of KMF.
• To interact with industry professionals and enhance entrepreneurial knowledge.
• Officials from KMF welcomed the students and provided a brief history of the federation.
• A presentation was given on KMF’s role in supporting dairy farmers and rural livelihoods.
• Students observed the milk procurement process,where milk is collected from farmers across Karnataka.
• They were guided through pasteurization, homogenization, and quality testing, and packaging stages.
• The role of automation and quality control in ensuring product safety and standards was explained.
• The distribution process from collection centers to retail stores was discussed.
• KMF’s cold storage and transportation facilities were shown to highlight product freshness and shelf life management.
• KMF’s pricing strategies, branding techniques, and promotional activities.
• The financial sustainability of the cooperative model was explained.
• Students gained hands-on knowledge of dairy production and supply chain management.
• The visit provided insights into rural entrepreneurship and cooperative business models.
• It helped students connect theoretical commerce concepts with real-world industry practices.
• Many students expressed interest in careers in agribusiness and dairy management.
