As part of the academic curriculum, the B.Com (Regular) students of the College embarked on an educational trip to Wayanad, Kerala. This trip was designed to provide students with insights into rural entrepreneurship, eco-tourism, sustainable farming, and local economic activities. It also aimed to enhance their understanding of business operations in an ecologically sensitive region.

Objectives of the Trip
• To explore rural entrepreneurship and small-scale industries in Wayanad.
• To understand the role of eco-tourism in economic development.
• To gain knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and spice plantations.
• To analyze the impact of tribal communities on local businesses and trade.
The Trip was organised to
Visit Coffee and Spice Plantation
• Students learned about organic farming techniques and sustainable agricultural practices.
• Exposure to coffee, pepper, cardamom, and tea cultivation.
• Insights into processing, packaging, and export of spices.

Eco-Tourism and Its Economic Impact
• Visit to eco-tourism sites like Edakkal Caves and Pookode Lake to understand their contribution to the local economy.
• Importance of community-based tourism and responsible travel.
• Discussions on government policies supporting sustainable tourism.

Tribal Handicrafts and Local Markets
• Interaction with local artisans and tribal communities engaged in bamboo crafts, honey production, and handmade textiles.
• Understanding the role of cooperatives and self-help groups in promoting local businesses.

Small-Scale and Cottage Industries
• Visit to dairy farms and handloom centers to understand operational challenges.
• Learning about government subsidies and financial aid for small businesses.
• Discussion on entrepreneurial opportunities in rural markets.

The educational trip to Wayanad was an insightful experience for B.Com students. It provided real-world exposure to business operations in rural and eco-sensitive areas, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical applications. Students gained valuable insights into agriculture, tourism, entrepreneurship, and sustainability, making this trip a highly enriching experience.
