Human Rights Awareness Seminar

The Human Rights Protection Cell of St. Francis College organised a seminar on “Human Rights Awareness” on 05 August 2026 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. The session was conducted by Adv. Shailja Swami, Associate Advocate, with the objective of creating awareness among students about human rights, their significance, and the responsibilities of individuals in protecting and promoting them.

The seminar began with a welcome address and the formal introduction of the resource person. Adv. Shailja Swami explained the basic concepts of human rights and highlighted key principles such as equality, dignity, freedom, justice, and non-discrimination. She also discussed various forms of human rights violations and emphasised the importance of taking a responsible stand against injustice.

An interactive session was conducted, during which the resource person engaged individually with students, encouraged them to share their views, and discussed real-life situations related to human rights. The session also familiarised students with their legal rights and the mechanisms available for seeking justice.

The seminar witnessed the active participation of 120 students from all Undergraduate (UG) programmes. The programme provided an informative and engaging learning experience and encouraged students to reflect on their role in promoting equality, dignity, and justice.

The seminar concluded with a formal vote of thanks expressing gratitude to the resource person and all participants.
