Kalamkari is an ancient textile painting technique that dates back over 3,000 years. It originated in Andhra Pradesh and flourished under royal patronage during the Mughal and Vijayanagara periods. The term "Kalamkari" is derived from the Persian words Kalam (pen) and Kari (craft), signifying the use of a fine-tipped pen or block prints to create detailed designs. The art is deeply rooted in storytelling, often depicting scenes from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as Persian and Mughal influences.
The event successfully revived interest in Kalamkari, highlighting its historical and artistic significance. Participants gained valuable insights into this eco-friendly and intricate art form. The Bangalore Museum of Art and Photography provided an excellent platform for preserving and promoting Kalamkari, ensuring that this heritage craft continues to thrive in modern times.
