Prevention of Sexual Harassment Committee (POSH)

The Prevention of Sexual Harassment Committee of St. Francis College is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive educational environment free from discrimination, harassment, and bullying.

Introduction

The primary key to a healthy and safe educational atmosphere is to build a surrounding free from discrimination and bullying. With this vision, the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Committee functions to eradicate all forms of sexual abuse and misconduct.

The committee follows a systematic, impartial, and confidential process in filing, investigating, and resolving complaints while safeguarding the dignity, privacy, and rights of every individual.

As per the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, the committee functions as the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).

Functions of the Committee

  • Implement policies and prepare short-term and long-term action plans.
  • Attend to student grievances immediately.
  • Investigate complaints impartially and take necessary action.
  • Periodically update policies to meet current needs.
  • Create awareness about sexual harassment in professional environments.
  • Encourage students to raise complaints without fear.
  • Ensure the committee remains approachable and transparent.

Mechanism

Reporting Procedures

Any student who believes they have been subjected to sexual harassment should report the matter to the POSH Committee.

Complaints may be made in person or via email at: posh@stfranciscollege.edu.in. All reports are treated with strict confidentiality and respect.

Investigation Procedures

  • Prompt initiation of investigation upon receipt of a complaint.
  • Inquiry conducted by POSH Committee members.
  • Interviews with complainant, respondent, and witnesses.
  • Collection and review of evidence.
  • Preparation of a written investigation report.

Disciplinary Actions

If sexual harassment is confirmed, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken, which may include:

  • Warning
  • Suspension
  • Expulsion
  • Other appropriate measures

Mission

Objectives

To fulfill the directive of the Supreme Court, as per UGC directives and the Bengaluru City University in respect of implementing policy against sexual harassment in the institution.

1. To frame a well-structured and possibly practical policy to maintain a healthy environment.
2. To understand the root cause of the problem and prevent it from occurring henceforth.
3. To enrich the knowledge of students about what constitutes sexual harassment.
4. Organize awareness programmes and campaigns for the benefit of students on sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination.
5. Ensure that all information pertaining either to complaints registered and the proceedings and findings of any inquiries and/or investigations are kept strictly confidential
6. To avoid any disturbances caused by gender-based discriminations.
