The Syllable : A Pronunciation Challenge | Muses Club

The Department of English, Muses Club, organised “The Syllable Sprint – A Pronunciation Challenge” on 18 August 2026 at Room 103. The event was coordinated by Ms. Annu Sara Jose, Faculty Coordinator, and judged by Ms. Surega Suresh. The competition aimed to enhance students’ pronunciation, vocabulary, communication skills, confidence, and quick-thinking abilities through an engaging and competitive activity.

The competition featured three theme-based rounds. In the first round, participants were required to pronounce sentences containing tricky words, with the round carrying 5 points. Based on their performance, eight teams advanced to the second round.

The second round consisted of two words for each team, with each word carrying 5 points. The words were based on country- and space-related names, testing the participants’ pronunciation skills and familiarity with unfamiliar terms. Following this round, five teams progressed to the final round.

The third and final round challenged the shortlisted teams with difficult and popular brand names. Tie-breakers were conducted wherever necessary to ensure a fair and accurate selection of the winners. At the end of the competition, three teams emerged as the winners.

• Second Prize: Karthik and Sushmitha
• Third Prize: Uday Kumar and Shaik Sohel

Overall, The Syllable Sprint provided students with an enjoyable platform to practise pronunciation, expand their vocabulary, respond quickly, and build confidence in communication. The activity also encouraged teamwork, healthy competition, and active participation, making the event both educational and engaging.
