

An educational visit titled “Compassionate Care in Practice: Visit to Nightingale Hospital and Dementia India Alliance” was organized for the students of the B.Sc. Psychology, Journalism, and Communication (PJC) department of St. Francis College. The event was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Anju S (Coordinator, B.Sc – PJC) and Ms. Mridula V. Kulkarni (Club Coordinator). The initiative received the valuable support of Rev. Bro. Dr. Titus Anto, Director, and Dr. R. N. Subba Rao, Principal of St. Francis College.
A total of 41 students participated in the visit, which aimed to provide practical exposure to mental health care, dementia support systems, and compassionate community service. During the visit to Nightingale Hospital, students attended informative sessions conducted by healthcare professionals who explained the importance of patient-centered care, mental health awareness, and therapeutic approaches used in clinical settings. The sessions enabled students to understand the emotional, psychological, and social aspects involved in caregiving and rehabilitation.
The visit to Dementia India Alliance further enriched the learning experience by exposing students to the realities of dementia care and the importance of empathy in supporting elderly individuals. Students also had the opportunity to engage in hands-on community interaction activities, which helped them develop communication skills, sensitivity, and a deeper understanding of social responsibility.
Overall, the visit was highly insightful and meaningful, bridging classroom learning with real-world experience and encouraging students to practice compassion and professionalism in community and healthcare settings.
