The Department of Journalism organised a competition titled “Newsreading: From Print to Mic” on 29th July 2026 to provide students with practical exposure to the process of transforming written news into spoken news presentation.
The competition was conducted in two rounds. The first round took place in Room No. 603, where participants were given a piece of printed news content. They were required to carefully read and convert the printed material into a proper news script suitable for broadcast. This round focused on testing the participants’ ability to identify important information, organise the news logically, and adapt written content into a format appropriate for news reading.
After completing the scripting task, participants proceeded to the Music Room for the second round, which was the news presentation round. In this stage, participants presented their prepared scripts as newsreaders using microphones. The setup helped simulate a real newsroom environment and allowed students to experience how news is delivered in broadcast media. The judges evaluated participants based on clarity of speech, pronunciation, voice modulation, confidence, and overall presentation.
The winners for the competition are:
First Prize: Chris Roshan R, I PJC
Second Prize: Andrew, III BA
Third Prize: Bhavana Ramesh, III BA
