Experiential Learning into Anatomy Laboratory By Department of Psychology

                                                 

The Department of Psychology, St. Francis College, Bengaluru, organized a one-day educational visit to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) on 9 September 2026 for Psychology students. The visit provided students with an enriching opportunity to connect classroom learning with practical exposure to the history of mental healthcare, contemporary mental health services, and the biological foundations of behaviour.

The visit commenced at the NIMHANS Heritage Museum, where students explored the institution's rich history and witnessed its evolution and significant contributions to mental health education, treatment, and research. The experience helped students appreciate the historical development of mental healthcare and the changing approaches to understanding psychological well-being.

The students then visited Tele-MANAS, where they were introduced to the functioning and significance of tele-mental health services. They learned how technology is being used to make mental health support more accessible to individuals across different settings. A demonstration and test call provided students with valuable practical insight into the process of tele-mental health support and the importance of effective

communication, empathy, and accessibility in psychological services.

The final segment of the visit was to the NIMHANS Brain Museum, where students participated in a session on the anatomy of the human brain. Observing brain specimens and learning about its structures enabled them to relate theoretical concepts from psychology and neuroscience to real-world observations.

The educational visit successfully bridged history, technology, psychology, and neuroscience, offering students a meaningful experiential learning experience and strengthening their understanding of psychology as both a scientific discipline and a mental health profession.
