The Department of Science – Psychology (PJC), St. Francis College, Bengaluru, organised an engaging Dance Movement Therapy training session for students from all three batches of the PJC programme. The session provided students with an opportunity to explore the connection between psychological well-being, body awareness, movement and emotional expression through an experiential learning approach.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Vastavika Singh, Faculty, JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University), who introduced students to the fundamental concepts and applications of Dance Movement Therapy. The training highlighted how movement and creative expression can support self-awareness, emotional expression, relaxation and overall psychological well-being.
Around 25 students from the three PJC batches actively participated in the session. Rather than focusing solely on theoretical understanding, the training encouraged students to
engage directly in movement-based activities and experiential exercises. Students explored how different forms of movement can communicate emotions and experiences, while also developing greater awareness of their own bodily responses and emotional states.
The interactive activities created an open and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to participate, reflect and express themselves through non-verbal forms of communication. The session also helped students appreciate the importance of integrating creative and experiential approaches within the broader field of psychology.
The training served as a valuable academic and experiential opportunity for students to gain exposure to Dance Movement Therapy as an emerging area of psychological practice. It encouraged students to look beyond conventional approaches and recognise the role of creative expression in promoting holistic well-being.
Overall, the session was an enriching and memorable learning experience, combining psychological concepts with movement, creativity and self-exploration.
