The Department of Science – Psychology (PJC), in association with the Sathva Club, organized an Awareness Programme titled “Awareness Programme to Sensitize Students Regarding the Practical Approaches in Psychology” on 14 July 2026 for the I Semester PJC students. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Mridula Kulkarni, Assistant Professor and Sathva Club Coordinator, along with Ms. Anju S, Department Coordinator. The session aimed to familiarize students with the practical applications of psychology and its significance in everyday life and professional practice.
The programme commenced with an introduction highlighting psychology as a scientific discipline with applications extending beyond theoretical learning. Dr. Chetna Lakhotia, the resource person, delivered an engaging session on the practical approaches used by psychologists while working with individuals, groups, and communities. Through case illustrations, real-life examples, and interactive discussions, she explained how psychological principles are applied in promoting mental well-being, understanding human behaviour, addressing emotional concerns, and supporting personal development.
The session also provided an overview of career opportunities in counselling, clinical, educational, organizational, sports, and community psychology. Students were introduced to the essential skills, ethical responsibilities, and professional competencies required in these specializations. Interactive activities encouraged participants to analyse psychological concepts and apply them to real-life situations, fostering critical thinking and active participation.
The programme successfully enhanced students' awareness of the practical dimensions of psychology and broadened their understanding of its diverse career pathways. Participants actively engaged in discussions and gained valuable insights into the role of psychology in promoting individual well-being and addressing societal challenges. The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session followed by a vote of thanks, leaving students motivated to explore psychology beyond the classroom.
